Danshagamu: Murder deeply disturbing – Gwarzo
KANO, Nigeria — Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the governorship candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has denounced the recent murder of social media commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State.
Gwarzo described the killing as “heinous, barbaric, and totally condemnable” in a statement released Thursday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu. He emphasized that the loss of any life due to differing opinions or political beliefs is unacceptable.
Dan Shagamu was allegedly attacked and killed inside his home, raising significant concerns among local residents regarding the safety of individuals voicing their thoughts online. Gwarzo called on security forces to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation to identify those responsible for the crime and ensure they face justice.
“No disagreement, criticism, or political difference should ever justify taking a human life,” Gwarzo stated. He underscored the importance of safeguarding the lives of all citizens, regardless of their political stance or social status.
The NDC candidate expressed heartfelt condolences to Dan Shagamu’s family and friends, urging them to remain patient while authorities undertake a comprehensive investigation. He also called for enhanced security measures throughout Kano State, asserting that protecting lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of the government.
Gwarzo cautioned residents against resorting to retaliation or taking the law into their own hands, instead urging them to assist law enforcement by providing any relevant information that could help apprehend those responsible for the attack.
He affirmed the need for Kano to remain a place where citizens can live, work, and express their views without fear of violence.
