Delta: Police arrest one chance suspected armed robbers with firearms

Delta State Police Arrest Four Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Firearms

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended four individuals suspected of armed robbery and seized two firearms during recent patrol operations across the state.

The arrests were made over two separate incidents involving members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Crack Squad. At approximately 4:25 p.m. on April 23, RRS officers conducted a routine stop-and-search along Ugbolu/Asaba Road, where they intercepted a 28-year-old man, Chinoso Igwemma. Authorities reported that his behavior raised suspicions, prompting a search that yielded a fabricated Beretta pistol. Igwemma is now in custody and undergoing further investigation.

In a coordinated effort, officers from the Crack Squad stopped a tricycle in the Bonsaac area of Asaba, which was carrying three males. The suspects have been identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem, 30; Nwabueze Kelvin, 28; and Okonkwo Celestine, 30. A thorough search of the tricycle uncovered a locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with a live cartridge.

Police investigations indicate that these individuals may be connected to various criminal activities involving the theft of personal belongings from victims. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to uncover the broader criminal network and apprehend any additional accomplices.

Commissioner of Police for Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, emphasized the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention strategies. He assured the public that efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance safety for residents will continue.
