DJ Chicken Remanded in Lagos Over Threat to President’s Son

LAGOS — DJ Chicken, a Nigerian content creator known for his controversial online presence, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following a court appearance on Friday.

The Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos State ordered his remand due to allegations that he threatened the life of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu. DJ Chicken faces three charges, including violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of the peace, and making threats to kill. These charges stem from a viral video in which he asserted that Tinubu would not secure re-election in 2027.

Subsequent to the video’s circulation, DJ Chicken denied the seriousness of his statements, claiming that they were intended as a joke meant to boost his visibility online. Despite this retraction, he was arrested and presented before the court.

After entering a plea of not guilty to the charges, DJ Chicken was granted bail set at ₦1 million, secured by two sureties. According to court stipulations, one surety must be a civil servant while the other must be a community leader with property in Lagos State. Both sureties are required to provide documentation, including three years of tax clearance, utility bills, their National Identification Number (NIN), and proof of registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA). Additionally, one surety must be a blood relation of the defendant.

The court has adjourned the case to August 3, 2026, while ordering DJ Chicken to remain in custody at Kirikiri Correctional Centre until he meets the conditions of his bail.
