Popular Disc Jockey, DJ Kaywise has opened up on the success of his hit single, ‘Highway,’ featuring rapper, Phyno.
In a brief chat with The Nation, the disc jockey said he knew the song would be a big one but he didn’t expect the magnitude of the song’s virality.
“I knew it was a great record and would get big at some point but certainly not to this extent it is at the moment and also going to,” Kaywise said.
Following the success of the song, the disc jockey decided to donate proceeds from the song to his personal NGO, the Okiki foundation. He noted that the decision was borne out of his increased determination to always give back to society as well as the millions of individuals who require basic commodities and amenities.
On his collaboration with Phyno, he said, “Well, I have always wanted to have Phyno on a record. Earlier we had worked on a record that wasn’t completed, also for a fact that I wish I knew how to speak Igbo because I worked with a lot of Igbo’s when I still started as an Alaba DJ.”
DJ Kaywise’s hit single Highway has been among the top songs on several music platforms and radio stations across Africa for weeks. The song which was created out of the trending Amapiano genre featured talented rapper, Phyno.
