Double dose of good news for Wallabies

Rugby Australia and the Wallabies have got a double dose of good news with the re-signing of two key players and securing Cadbury as its new major sponsor.

Waratahs and Wallabies duo Angus Bell and Jake Gordon have signed one and two year extensions respectively, giving NSW some much needed cheer in the middle of a so far winless season.

Bell, 21, is an outstanding prospect at loosehead prop and is likely to start for the Wallabies at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

“Angus is one of the best up and coming props in world rugby,” RA’s director of rugby Scott Johnson said.

“Most props don’t come into their prime until a lot later in their career. However to have such young talent coming through our pathway speaks volumes to the behind-the-scenes work going on in talent ID and development.”

Gordon, 27, is the Waratahs captain and has been in excellent form despite injury hindering his 2021 campaign.

“Jake is a standout player and senior voice at the Waratahs this year and has a lot more to contribute as we continue to build into 2023,” Johnson said.

“Both Angus’ and Jake’s signings are one of a number which are currently being worked through, ensuring Australian rugby continues to grow to full strength as we prepare for our upcoming fixtures against the French as well as keep one eye on the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, RA also announced Cadbury as the new principal partner of the Wallabies and a major partner of the Wallaroos as part of a five year commitment to the code.

Cadbury replaces Qantas, who exited their 30 year relationship during the COVID-19 crunch last year.

It is a key development after RA recently announced a $27.1 million loss for 2020.

“From the alignment on values to their commitment to the development of women’s sport, as well as increasing the opportunities and profile of the game, this partnership will only further encourage the growth of our game across all levels,” RA chief executive Andy Marinos said.
