DSS Releases Wrongfully Detained Yobe State Resident

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Ya’u Mohammed, a resident of Gashua in the Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, following his wrongful detention. This announcement was made by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Retired), Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, during his visit to the DSS Command Headquarters in Damaturu. Mohammed was officially handed over to Abdulsalam before being reunited with his family.

Abdulsalam visited the facility to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mohammed’s detention and subsequent release. “Further reviews and findings by the Service confirmed that Mr. Ya’u Mohammed had no involvement in the alleged offense for which he was detained,” he stated.

He called the DSS’s actions unprecedented in his years of public service, noting that he had never witnessed a case where an individual was released after being cleared and provided with financial assistance. “This is a clear deliberate undertaking by the Director General of the DSS to promote justice, compassion, and reintegration,” he said.

Abdulsalam appealed to other security agencies to uphold the rule of law and respect fundamental human rights, emphasizing the importance of this approach in strengthening public trust and cooperation.

Upon his release, Ya’u Mohammed expressed gratitude, attributing his ordeal to destiny and faith. After being cleared of any wrongdoing, he received a financial support package of 2 million naira from the DSS to facilitate his reintegration into society.
