Ebola: FG Steps Up Response As 44 Contacts Traced In FCT

The Federal Government has stepped up its response to the Ebola virus disease following the confirmation of a case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Authorities have identified 44 close contacts of the patient for ongoing monitoring.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the situation in a statement from spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The patient is a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda. She was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT, where she received treatment for several days prior to the confirmation of her infection.

Currently, the woman is in isolation and is receiving appropriate medical care. Several government agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), are collaborating to manage the situation and curb further transmission of the virus.

Contact tracing operations have begun, with 44 individuals, including healthcare workers and those associated with the patient’s travel, identified for monitoring and follow-up health assessments. The statement emphasized that surveillance, laboratory testing, and additional response efforts are being coordinated according to established public health protocols.

“These measures are intended to facilitate the early identification of potential cases, strengthen infection prevention and control, and minimize the risk of further transmission,” the ministry stated.

The Federal Government has urged the public to remain calm and to avoid spreading misinformation. It advised citizens to follow the guidance issued by health authorities and to rely only on information from official channels.

The ministry assured the public that it would maintain communication with relevant national institutions and stakeholders to support a coordinated response to this health crisis.
