Ebola: NCDC Intensifies Contact Tracing, Supplies PPE To High-Risk States –

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is ramping up efforts to mitigate the ongoing Ebola outbreak by enhancing contact tracing, increasing laboratory testing, and distributing personal protective equipment (PPE) to high-risk states.

In a recent update, the NCDC outlined its response activities, highlighting the ongoing daily meetings of its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). These meetings focus on reviewing progress, coordinating interventions, and identifying priorities in key response areas. Teams involved in laboratory services, disease surveillance, risk communication, and community engagement participate in these discussions.

The NCDC is operating under the direction of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, collaborating with the Federal Capital Territory Administration and various ministries, departments, agencies, and development partners.

The agency’s response strategies encompass monitoring identified contacts, mobilizing laboratory testing kits, and supplying PPE and other essential resources to states deemed high risk.

In addition, investigations are being conducted by Port Health Services in partnership with aviation stakeholders to bolster health surveillance and curb further transmission of the virus.

The NCDC underscores the necessity of coordinated actions, timely information dissemination, and public cooperation to safeguard the health of Nigerians and effectively manage the outbreak. The agency urges the public to continue supporting health measures as response teams maintain their surveillance, testing, and other interventions.
