Ebonyi: Police deploy personnel ahead of August 22 LG elections

Ebonyi State Police Enhance Security for Upcoming Local Government Elections

Ebonyi State Police Command has announced the deployment of personnel to polling stations and key locations across all 13 Local Government Areas in preparation for the Local Government elections scheduled for August 22, 2026.

According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu, the command, led by Commissioner of Police Hope Urunwa-Okafor, is working in conjunction with other security agencies to ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.

As part of their security measures, the command will implement a restriction on movement throughout the state from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on election day. This measure will exempt accredited election officials, journalists, observers, emergency service providers, health workers, and other authorized personnel.

The Commissioner of Police has cautioned political actors and their supporters against making inflammatory statements or engaging in violent actions that could disrupt the elections. She emphasized that violators of this directive will be held accountable under the law.

Additionally, the Commissioner encouraged voters to remain calm, adhere to the lawful directives of security personnel, and promptly report any suspicious activities or emergencies.

The Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining security before, during, and after the elections to facilitate a peaceful and efficient electoral process.
