Ebonyi State Police Command Emphasizes Professionalism During Meeting

The Ebonyi State Police Command has reinforced directives from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) aimed at maintaining professionalism, discipline, and accountability, while respecting citizens’ rights.

Commissioner of Police Hope Urunwa-Okafor addressed these priorities during a strategic meeting over the weekend with department heads, area commanders, divisional police officers, and other senior staff. The meeting followed the IGP’s recent discussions with the Strategic Management Team of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu, the session primarily focused on conveying the IGP’s operational directives and promoting ethical policing practices within the command.

During her remarks, Urunwa-Okafor warned officers against a range of professional misconduct, including discourteous behavior toward the public, extortion, harassment, and abuse of authority, emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated. She also instructed senior officers to enhance supervision of their teams, cautioning that those in supervisory roles would be held responsible for any lapses.

With political activities set to increase in the lead-up to upcoming elections, the Commissioner directed area commanders and divisional police officers to improve intelligence gathering and sustain operations targeting criminal activity to ensure public safety.

Urunwa-Okafor additionally cautioned officers to refrain from conducting unlawful searches of citizens’ mobile phones and personal electronic devices without a valid search warrant, labeling such actions as violations of constitutional rights.

She urged all officers to conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing the importance of respect for human rights and courteous service in all interactions.
