EFCC Arraigns Chukwuebuka Ogbonna for Alleged Theft

ENUGU — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Chukwuebuka Ogbonna before Justice Vincent C. Ezeugwu of the Enugu State High Court on charges of theft amounting to 15.4 million Naira.

Ogbonna faces a four-count indictment pertaining to allegations of stealing by conversion, in violation of Section 342 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 30, Enugu State, which is punishable under Section 353 (1) of the same law.

During the proceedings, Ogbonna pleaded not guilty to the charges. In response, EFCC counsel Rotimi Ajobiewe requested a trial date and sought to have the defendant remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Enugu.

The court adjourned the matter to July 16, 2026, for a hearing on the bail application, while Ogbonna was remanded at the EFCC’s facility.

The allegations against Ogbonna stem from a complaint filed in October 2023, in which a petitioner claimed to have paid him 15.4 million Naira to assist with the importation of three vehicles. According to the petitioner, Ogbonna promised to deliver the cars by December 25, 2023, but failed to do so and has not refunded the money.
