EFCC, ICPC use case, force support for Tinubu’s second term – El-Rufai alleges

Former Kaduna Governor Claims Political Motives Behind Investigations

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused authorities of conducting politically motivated investigations of his associates. During an interview on Arise News on Friday, El-Rufai asserted that anti-corruption agencies are pressuring individuals to support President Bola Tinubu in anticipation of a potential second-term campaign.

El-Rufai stated that investigations have been conducted without yielding incriminating evidence. “They have done their investigation and have found nothing,” he said. “I have been around this system; I know what’s going on. I have an idea of what’s going on; there are political motives.”

He further alleged that some academics within the institution feel uneasy about the situation, claiming they are experiencing pressure. “Some of the professors in this institution feel very bad; they are being compelled,” he added.

Additionally, El-Rufai claimed that individuals summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) were instructed to politically align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a prerequisite for resolving their cases.

“When some of my guys were invited to EFCC and ICPC, they were being asked to join APC and support Tinubu for a second term for the case to be settled,” he alleged. “When they were asked to settle, it means agree to Tinubu’s second term.”
