Lagos EFCC Investigates Suspected Fake Lawyer
LAGOS — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into John Anoruo, a suspected fraudulent lawyer, for allegedly possessing a counterfeit seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Anoruo, who operates a legal and educational consultancy in Ikorodu, was taken into custody on April 20, 2026. The inquiry began following a petition he filed with the EFCC on September 22, 2025, against Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
Authorities uncovered that both the initial petition and a subsequent withdrawal letter, dated March 5, 2026, included a forged NBA seal. During questioning, Anoruo acknowledged procuring the seal from an unspecified business center in Lagos.
The 55-year-old claimed to have earned a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2018. However, he admitted to not attending the Nigerian Law School.
EFCC officials have confirmed that Anoruo will face prosecution once the investigation is complete.
