Emir of Kano Appoints New Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idanawa
KANO — Emir Muhammad Sanusi II has appointed retired Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar as the new Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idanawa, effective April 22, 2026.
The appointment was announced in an official letter signed by Aliyu Ibrahim Ahmed, Matawallen Kano and Senior Councillor of the Kano Emirate Council. This decision follows the death of the previous titleholder, who passed away on April 14, 2026.
In the letter, the Emir expressed confidence in Umar’s capabilities, highlighting his potential contributions to the development of the emirate. “His Highness congratulates you and hopes that you will use your wealth of experience to contribute to the development of Kano Emirate and Kano State,” the correspondence stated.
The Emirate Council also extended prayers for Umar, seeking divine guidance as he prepares to assume his new role.
