Emir says Qatar has shown resilience in face of ‘exceptional events’ | Politics News

Qatar’s Emir Addresses Regional Instability in Shura Council Meeting
DOHA — Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, addressed the Shura Council on Tuesday, highlighting the exceptional challenges the region has faced amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. Speaking in the capital, Sheikh Tamim emphasized the strength and cohesion of Qatar’s state institutions during these turbulent times.
“Our country and the region have faced exceptional events that have once again proven the cohesion of state institutions,” Sheikh Tamim stated, underscoring the resilience of Qatar amid heightened tensions.
The Emir’s remarks come in the wake of the war, which began on February 28 and has contributed to a global energy crisis. Qatar has been directly affected by the conflict, experiencing attacks from Iran, including a notable incident in March when Iran targeted Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) production site.
Sheikh Tamim noted that Qatar’s prior policies have allowed the country to absorb the repercussions of this regional instability. He reiterated Doha’s commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means, while emphasizing that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is non-negotiable.
“The security of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and the preservation of their sovereignty is a matter that cannot be compromised on,” he said.
The conflict has also disrupted vital global supply routes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively blocked by Tehran since the onset of hostilities. In light of these developments, Sheikh Tamim called for enhanced efforts to secure maritime navigation in the region.
“Efforts must be doubled to secure navigation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and to protect energy facilities and civilian infrastructure,” he added.
