Ex-Foreign Minister, Tuggar reaffirms loyalty to Tinubu amid guber primary loss

Yusuf Tuggar Reaffirms Support for President Tinubu’s Policies

BAUCHI, Nigeria — Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar reiterated his support for President Bola Tinubu’s transformational policies following misinterpretations of his recent remarks in a Hausa-language interview.

In a statement released on Sunday by his media aide, Abdulkadir Alkassim, Tuggar clarified that he did not criticize or question President Tinubu. “Any suggestion to the contrary is false and a deliberate distortion of his remarks,” he stated.

Tuggar’s comments in the interview addressed issues within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, focusing on the importance of transparency, fairness, and internal democracy. He emphasized the need for party members to have the freedom to select their candidates through credible elections.

Alkassim noted that Tuggar raised concerns regarding alleged attempts by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, to influence the governorship selection process instead of allowing candidates to demonstrate their popularity among party members.

“The former minister contended that all interested candidates should have a fair opportunity to participate in an open contest,” Alkassim said.

He added that President Tinubu has instructed all political appointees intending to run for office to resign within the set timeframe, allowing them to seek the mandate of party members.

Tuggar’s concerns, as outlined by his aide, aim to strengthen the APC in Bauchi State and maintain confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes. He believes that addressing grievances and ensuring fairness will foster unity and position the party for future success.

Furthermore, Tuggar urged President Tinubu and APC leadership to consider the concerns of stakeholders and take necessary actions to enhance justice, inclusion, and party cohesion.

“Ambassador Tuggar remains steadfast in his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, committed to party unity and dedicated to advancing policies that promote development, prosperity, and good governance for the people of Bauchi State and Nigeria,” Alkassim concluded.
