LAGOS—Power sector experts are advocating for the accelerated adoption of renewable energy and microgrid technologies to mitigate Nigeria’s ongoing electricity supply challenges and lessen reliance on the national grid.

In interviews at the recent Nigeria Energy Summit, industry leaders emphasized that decentralized energy solutions could significantly enhance electricity access for businesses and rural communities.

Anshul Alankar, a product manager at DEIF, highlighted the increasing importance of renewable energy within government policy and the commercial sector. “The grid system is unable to meet the electricity needs of Nigerians and Africans for sustainable energy,” he said. He added that Nigeria possesses abundant solar energy resources and noted that microgrids could offer a more feasible solution since they do not require extensive infrastructure to distribute power nationwide. “You can create your own grid, minimize fuel consumption, and maximize the sun, which is free,” he stated.

Alankar also discussed the rising demand for decentralized energy, asserting that market needs center around microgrids and improving fuel efficiency. “We provide solutions that enable batteries to work more efficiently and solar panels to be maximized,” he said.

Dr. Moriam Jagun, Executive Director of Delmira Power Solutions, also shared insights about the company’s plans to introduce advanced power management solutions in Nigeria. According to Dr. Jagun, these technologies “coordinate, protect, and monitor energy, ensuring efficient generation and delivery for both land and marine applications.”

Engr. Nmecha Chizinum Ayodele, Sales Head of Engineering at Delmira Power Solutions, remarked on the potential for further expansion in renewable energy across Nigeria. “Our country has come to the point of further expansion in renewable energy, from household to grid levels,” he said. He emphasized that solutions from DEIF can remotely monitor, automate, and synchronize various power sources, enabling comprehensive energy provision for industries and homes, thereby reducing energy costs.
