Taraba Police Urge Community Cooperation Amid Rising Violence
The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Edwin Ogbegbagha, has called on residents of Sardauna Local Government Area to provide timely and credible information to assist security agencies in their efforts to identify and apprehend individuals responsible for recent acts of violence in the region.
Ogbegbagha made this request during a visit on Wednesday to communities impacted by recent unrest that resulted in loss of life and destruction of property. He conducted the on-the-ground assessment alongside the Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army and other security personnel to gather first-hand information about the situation and engage with local stakeholders on measures to restore peace and security.
During the visit, the security team held discussions with community leaders on enhancing security operations, improving intelligence gathering, and ensuring the protection of lives and property.
The commissioner reassured residents of the commitment of security agencies to restoring peace and preventing further violence in the affected areas. He announced that additional security resources and increased aerial surveillance by the Nigeria Police Air Wing would be deployed in line with directives from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Ogbegbagha urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. He encouraged the public, government officials, traditional leaders, and community members to strengthen their support and collaboration with security agencies.
He emphasized that achieving lasting peace would require a collective effort, effective information sharing, and sustained collaboration among all stakeholders. The commissioner reaffirmed the Taraba State Police Command’s dedication to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property, pledging to work alongside other security agencies and the community to ensure safety throughout the state.
