‘False, misleading’ – BCO disowns viral APM governorship flyer
The campaign organization of Biodun Collins Ogundipe (BCO) has dismissed a viral flyer claiming he is the governorship candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State as false and misleading.
The flyer, which has been widely shared on social media, features BCO’s photograph alongside the APM logo and the message, “Finally BCO is on ballot.”
In a statement issued Monday, the Directorate of Media and Publicity for the BCO Campaign Organization clarified that the flyer was not authorized by BCO or his campaign team.
“The attention of the BCO Campaign Organisation has been drawn to the campaign flyer currently circulating across various social media platforms, bearing the photograph and name of Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe (BCO), alongside the logo of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), with the inscription: ‘Finally BCO is on ballot,’” the statement read.
The organization asserted that the flyer had not been produced, authorized, endorsed, or circulated by them.
“We wish to categorically state that the said flyer was neither produced, authorised, endorsed nor circulated by the BCO Campaign Organisation,” the statement continued.
The campaign organization cautioned that any use of BCO’s image on unauthorized materials should not be interpreted as an official stance or endorsement. It expressed concern that the dissemination of such misinformation could create confusion among supporters, political stakeholders, and the public.
“The circulating flyer does not emanate from the BCO Campaign Organisation or any of its authorised representatives. No individual or group has been authorised by the Campaign Organisation to issue the said publication on its behalf,” it said.
The campaign urged the general public, political associates, supporters, and media representatives to disregard the flyer and refrain from its circulation. It also called on those responsible for its production to cease using BCO’s name and image in a misleading manner.
Regarding BCO’s candidacy status, the campaign organization noted that Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe and the National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have appealed a recent Court of Appeal ruling to the Supreme Court.
The disclaimer follows a similar disavowal from the Ogun State Chairman of APM, Comrade Abayomi Sanyaolu, who also labeled the flyer as fake and cautioned against malign actors and confusionists interfering with APM’s activities.
