FCT Minister to Deliver Convocation Lecture at UNIPORT
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is scheduled to deliver a convocation lecture at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) on Saturday.
According to a statement from the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike will address the topic “Leadership and Infrastructure Development in Nigeria: Lessons for Future Leaders.” The lecture will take place at the New Convocation Arena in Choba, Rivers State, beginning at 10 a.m.
In a letter dated April 20, 2026, University Vice Chancellor Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill extended an invitation to Wike to serve as the Convocation Lecturer during the institution’s 36th Convocation Ceremony, set for Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The Vice Chancellor’s letter emphasized the importance of the lecture in fostering engaged discussions among graduating students and the broader academic community on topics vital to national development, leadership, and society’s future.
“We believe that your presence at this significant academic milestone will not only honor your alma mater but also strengthen the essential link between leadership, scholarship, and national progress,” the letter stated. “It will also serve as a source of motivation and direction for our students, who stand at the threshold of new beginnings.”
In a response conveyed by his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi, on April 23, 2026, Wike accepted the invitation. The Minister expressed that his selected topic reflects his conviction that effective leadership must yield tangible outcomes, particularly in the areas of critical infrastructure, social services, and amenities that enhance citizens’ lives.
