Five Injured in Lagos Truck-Bus Collision

LAGOS, Nigeria — Five passengers sustained serious injuries in a collision involving a 40-foot HOWO truck and two commercial buses at the Berger Bus Stop, near the Kara Bridge, on the Ojodu axis of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the crash occurred between an interstate Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace bus. The injured individuals include three females and two males, one of whom is the driver.

According to LASTMA, the heavy-duty truck, heading out of Lagos, collided with the two commercial vehicles, leading to significant injuries among the occupants.

Emergency responders from LASTMA, along with personnel from the Isheri Police Station, assisted in rescuing the victims. Volunteer motorists transported the injured passengers to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at Toll Gate for medical evaluation and treatment.

As a result of the accident, traffic congestion ensued, with delays extending back to Otedola Bridge. LASTMA officials worked to remove the truck and buses from the roadway to prevent further incidents and improve traffic flow.

The vehicles involved in the crash have been secured by police for a thorough investigation to determine the cause and any necessary legal action.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed his concerns for the injured passengers and wished them a swift recovery. He emphasized the importance of responsible driving, adherence to road safety regulations, and regular maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles. Bakare-Oki cautioned that mechanical failures, reckless driving, and loss of control could lead to severe accidents.

The agency urged truck operators to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and advised all motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations to prevent future incidents.
