FOMWAN Wins Best Mobiliser Award For Cancer Awareness Campaign In Cross River –

FOMWAN’s Cross River Chapter Earns Best Mobiliser Award for Cancer Awareness Efforts
The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Cross River State Chapter, has been awarded the Best Mobiliser Award by Pink Africa Foundation for its significant contributions to cancer awareness and grassroots mobilization in the state.
The award was presented during a recent cancer awareness campaign and free medical screening event, held on October 24, 2026, in Calabar. This initiative was a collaboration involving the Pink Africa Foundation and various partner organizations.
The program included an awareness walk, health education sessions, and free screenings for breast, cervical, and prostate cancers. Many Muslim women, both members of FOMWAN and others, benefited from these medical services, which aimed to promote preventive healthcare and enhance access to early diagnosis.
Hajia Lateefah Yahaya Idinye, president of FOMWAN’s Cross River State Chapter, praised the recognition as a motivation to further the association’s commitment to health advocacy and community service.
“This award reflects the dedication and collective efforts of our members in mobilizing Muslim women and supporting initiatives aimed at improving community wellbeing,” Idinye said. She emphasized the importance of increasing health awareness among women, urging them to take advantage of available screening opportunities.
Idinye stressed that early detection is crucial in managing cancer effectively and asserted that every woman deserves access to health information and medical attention, regardless of her background.
She also commended Pink Africa Foundation and its partners for their role in providing essential healthcare services to the community.
Moving forward, Idinye reaffirmed FOMWAN’s commitment to maintaining partnerships with healthcare providers and development organizations to expand health awareness initiatives and medical interventions at the grassroots level.
The recognition of FOMWAN underlines the vital contribution of faith-based organizations in advancing public health education and promoting preventive healthcare, particularly in underserved communities where access to screening services may be limited.
