Four Individuals Charged in Assault Case in Ibadan
Ibadan, Nigeria – Four individuals were charged in the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a neighbor and two police officers.
The defendants—Wahab Sikiru, 45, his wife Taiwo Sikiru, 35, Taiwo Balikis, 30, and Ifeoluwa Alabi, 26—face charges of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. Each defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Cpl. David Adepoju presented details of the case, stating that the alleged incidents occurred on April 27 in Ido, Ibadan. The prosecutor claimed that a misunderstanding led the defendants to assault their neighbor, Mrs. Aduragbemi Edujobi, resulting in physical harm and damage to her clothing. Furthermore, Adepoju alleged that the defendants assaulted two police officers—Insp. Mercy Sunday and PC Phebe Olatunde—while they were performing their official duties, damaging their uniforms in the process.
The offenses are said to violate sections 249(d), 351, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Mrs. Kausarat Ayofe granted bail to each defendant in the amount of 500,000 Naira, requiring two sureties for each in a similar sum. The case is scheduled for hearing on June 24.
