FUTO Tragedy: Alex Onyia alleges warnings were ignored before student’s death

Education Advocate Raises Concerns Following Student’s Death at Federal University of Technology, Owerri

An education advocate, Alex Onyia, has responded to the tragic death of a student at the Federal University of Technology in Owerri, claiming he had previously alerted the institution about the activities of the Man O’ War group operating on campus.

Onyia made his remarks in a statement shared on his official social media page. He alleged that he had advised the university administration to disband the group and investigate claims regarding its actions prior to the incident.

“Man O’ War beat a student to death at FUTO yesterday,” Onyia stated. “I warned the university about their brutal activities and urged the management to disband them and launch an investigation. They ignored it. Now a student is dead.”

He directed criticism toward the university’s leadership, specifically naming Prof. Nnenna Oti. “The blood is on your hands for your complacency,” he added.

The university has not yet issued a public response to these allegations or to the incident involving the student.
