[unpaid/sample] Germoline? Pepto-Bismol? Calomine? Whatever you call this pink that GenSee has used to colour up their new balm, you’re looking at a very lovely lip mask.

GenSee Comfort Level Lip Mask

Comfort Level is actually not a simple formulation – the brand mentions a blend of hyaluronic acid, hemp oil and avocado oil (all delicious) but begins with Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2 which is a vegetable derived lanolin-type ingredient. It’s not a ‘bad’ ingredient by the way – it’s followed by Diisostearyl malate which is used as an emollient and is derived from malic acid and isostearyl alcohol. Again, a very safe ingredient. But it’s not till we get to ingredient 9 that we see anything recognisable – hydrogenated olive oil.  There are 27 individual ingredient in this which seems like a very long way around finding your way to an acceptable lip balm. It also contains Polyethylene, which is an production energy high plastic and I’m not sure where it fits with the ‘clean beauty’ ethos of this brand. That said, it’s safe and in very common usage.

All that said, Comfort Level is a lovely balm – I really like the way it leaves a milky trace on the lips and it’s straightaway nourishing. Not more than other balms I’ve tried but it’s definitely doing its job. It’s £24 which seems a lot for this and flies just under the free postage allowance of £25 which feels cynical. You can find it HERE.
