God, not Don Jazzy made me successful – Wande Coal

Nigerian singer Wande Coal has clarified that the narrative surrounding his rise to fame, which attributes his success primarily to his former record label boss, Don Jazzy, is not entirely accurate.

In a recent interview with Channels TV, Wande Coal emphasized that while he collaborated with Don Jazzy, he credits his achievements to divine intervention. “God is the reason for my success. I give all the credits to him because he was the one who brought me out and made me successful,” he stated.

Wande Coal further explained that the notion of Don Jazzy solely propelling his career overlooks the collaborative nature of their partnership. “Some people say it was Don Jazzy that brought me out, but I feel like it was just two talented people working together to achieve success. So, it’s not by one man. It’s God,” he added.

Wande Coal first caught the attention of Don Jazzy and D’banj in 2006 after performing at a campus event at the University of Lagos. Following the performance, he was signed to their record label, Mo’ Hits, just one day later. He rose to prominence with a feature on most tracks of Mo’ Hits’ compilation album, “Curriculum Vitae,” released in 2007, and further solidified his status with his debut album, “Mushin 2 Mo’ Hits,” in 2009.

In 2012, after a split between Don Jazzy and D’banj, Wande Coal transitioned to Jazzy’s newly established label, Mavin Records. However, he left Mavin Records in 2013 to launch his own music label, Black Diamond Entertainment.
