Benue State Governor Swears in New High Court Judge

Makurdi, Nigeria — Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia on Tuesday officially swore in Justice Christine Ende as a judge of the Benue State High Court. The ceremony took place at the Old Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House.

Governor Alia characterized Justice Ende’s appointment as a significant milestone in the state’s judicial system. He highlighted her three-decade career, noting her extensive experience in legal practice, judicial administration, human rights advocacy, and public service.

The governor emphasized that Justice Ende’s qualifications include her previous roles at African Bank Plc, the National Human Rights Commission, and as Deputy Chief Registrar and Admiralty Marshal at the Federal High Court, which he indicated reflect her readiness for her new position.

With this appointment, the number of judges in Benue State has increased from 32 to 33, while the number of female judges has risen from 13 to 14. Governor Alia described this development as indicative of his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity, and the advancement of women in leadership roles.

He remarked on the importance of giving women equal opportunities to contribute to nation-building as essential for sustainable development.

In his address, Governor Alia urged Justice Ende to uphold the Constitution and fulfill her duties with integrity, independence, courage, and fairness, underscoring the judiciary’s role as the last hope for ordinary citizens.

According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, Alia commended the National Judicial Council, the Judicial Service Commission, and the Benue State Judiciary leadership for their contributions to Justice Ende’s appointment. He assured continued government support for the judiciary to enhance justice delivery and uphold the rule of law.

Governor Alia concluded the event by congratulating Justice Ende on her elevation and wishing her a successful and impactful judicial career.
