Gov Lawal unveils plan to improve response to insecurity

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has announced efforts to enhance the response of security agencies to ongoing insecurity in the region, particularly in areas frequently targeted by attacks.

During a media briefing on Monday, Lawal cited poor road access and challenging terrain as significant obstacles that hinder security responses in certain communities, specifically along the Tsafe-Yankuzo corridor.

The governor stated that the administration is taking steps to improve road infrastructure while integrating technology, such as drones, to bolster surveillance and ensure that security personnel receive timely information about potential threats.

“Reconstructing the Tsafe-Yankuzo road is essential for allowing security officials quicker access during attacks, which will significantly reduce response times,” Lawal explained. He added that the deployment of drones would aid in monitoring remote locations, particularly during the rainy season when accessibility tends to be even more limited.

While acknowledging that attacks persist in some areas, Lawal emphasized that the frequency of killings has decreased compared to previous years. He specifically mentioned the Tsafe Local Government Area as being particularly vulnerable, citing the activities of suspected bandit leader Ado Alero and his group as a central concern.

The governor assured that the state government is refining its technological capabilities to enhance its intelligence gathering and improve response strategies to incidents of violence and insecurity.
