Governor Nwifuru Urges Ebonyi Youths to Reject Political Violence
ABAKALIKI, Ebonyi State — Governor Francis Nwifuru has urged young people in the state to resist becoming tools for political violence, asserting that no political ambition justifies the loss of life.
Nwifuru delivered this message on Wednesday during the grand finale of the 2026 International Youth Week Celebration, organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter.
Representing the governor, Chidi Onyia, Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, emphasized that youths are the state’s greatest asset. He encouraged them to prepare for future leadership and economic opportunities through education, skills acquisition, innovation, and hard work.
The governor called on youths to be wary of political manipulation, especially through social media and propaganda. He urged them to utilize digital platforms for constructive engagement, education, and community development.
Nwifuru also highlighted the importance of acquiring sustainable skills to reduce reliance on political patronage. He noted that preparation is key for youths to seize opportunities as they arise, advocating for resilience and a commitment to personal development.
Douglas Ochishi, Chairman of NYCN Ebonyi State, remarked that the celebration serves as a platform for youths to contemplate their role in the state’s progress. He encouraged the youth to reject drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, and political thuggery in favor of education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and responsible citizenship.
Other speakers at the event, including Stanley Mbam, Commissioner for Works, alongside various government officials and stakeholders, reiterated the need for ongoing investments in youth development, education, and leadership preparation.
