Gunmen Attack Commercial Bus on Benin-Lagos Highway, Driver Killed, Passengers Abducted

Suspected kidnappers attacked a commercial bus belonging to the GUO transport company on the Benin-Lagos highway, resulting in the death of the driver and the abduction of several passengers. The incident occurred on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

According to sources, the bus was en route to eastern Nigeria from Lagos when it was ambushed by armed assailants on the Benin-Ore section of the road. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen opened fire, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passengers were allegedly taken into the nearby bush.

In a video circulating on social media, a narrator described how the gunmen attacked the bus, killed the driver, and dragged passengers away.

The public relations officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident and stated that authorities have initiated a manhunt for the kidnappers. She noted that police operatives are conducting search efforts in the surrounding bush areas to locate the abducted passengers and apprehend those responsible.

“The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Iguobazuwa Police Division. The Police Commissioner has instructed neighboring divisions to assist in the search operation,” Ikoedem added.
