Hajj: Kaduna commences screening of luggage

Kaduna State Begins Luggage Screening for Pilgrims

The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has initiated luggage screenings as part of preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season. The screening process is designed to ensure compliance with luggage weight restrictions and to identify any prohibited items.

Professor Muhammadu Mustapha Gwadabe, Chairman of the Luggage Screening and Weighing Sub-Committee, announced that the screenings commenced on Thursday night. In a statement released on Sunday by Malam Ibraheem Musa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, Gwadabe praised the pilgrims for adhering to the airline’s regulations.

To facilitate the process, the agency has provided scales throughout the building, allowing pilgrims to weigh their luggage prior to the official screening. Gwadabe reported that the luggage for the first flight has already been screened successfully, with the two allowed bags weighing 23 kilograms each being evacuated from the pilgrims’ residence.

Gwadabe reiterated the luggage guidelines, stating that pilgrims are permitted two bags weighing 23 kilograms each, while hand luggage must not exceed eight kilograms. He also emphasized that sharp objects and liquids, including large quantities of perfumes, are prohibited in checked bags.

Additionally, Gwadabe announced a schedule change for the return flight, now set to begin on June 16 rather than the previously planned June 15. He urged pilgrims to use the extra day for reflection and prayer for themselves, their families, and the wider community.
