Headmaster beg Gov Oborevwori to sand fill, build staff quarters in flooded school

Floodwaters and rampant weeds have overtaken Ogini Primary School in the Obotebe Community of Burutu Local Government Area in Delta State. This situation is alarming, particularly as Obotebe is the ancestral home of Julius Takeme, the current chairman of the Burutu Local Government Council.
According to a Daily Post correspondent who visited the school, classrooms are largely devoid of chairs and desks, with many roofs blown off by recent storms. Concerns have also been raised about reptiles potentially taking refuge on the premises.
In an interview, Assistant Headmaster Okoye Young expressed the pressing challenges faced by the school. “We are just managing,” he said, highlighting the need for more teachers, noting that the current staff comprises only nine individuals. Young explained that many teachers are reluctant to accept transfers to the riverine area due to its geographical challenges.
Young also lamented the absence of staff quarters for teachers. “The entire compound is flooded. We urge the government to come and assist us with sand filling the school compound,” he stated. He added that, due to the floods, students had been on break for two weeks. “If the government can help us to sand fill the school, the flood issues could be resolved,” Young said.
