‘How many more Nigerians must be slaughtered’ – Atiku blasts Tinubu govt over 32 deaths in Sokoto

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed his condolences following the tragic deaths of 32 individuals in the Ungushi community of Kebbe Local Government Area in Sokoto State. In a statement on his official X account on August 17, 2026, he emphasized the need for urgent governmental action to address the ongoing violence in the region.

“I am devastated by the killing of 32 innocent Nigerians in Ungushi community, Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State,” Atiku wrote, conveying his sympathies to the families of the victims and the people of Sokoto.

Atiku criticized the government’s response to such incidents, questioning the adequacy of condolences in the face of continual violence. “How many more Nigerians must be slaughtered before this government treats the protection of human life as an emergency?” he asked.

He called for the Federal Government to enhance intelligence operations, secure vulnerable communities, and ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.

“The first duty of government is to protect life. Nigerians cannot continue to bury their loved ones while those entrusted with their security offer excuses,” he added.
