Nigerian Afrobeats artist Ayra Starr has recounted how a meeting with billionaire singer Rihanna in Barbados in 2024 significantly boosted her confidence and self-image.
In an interview with W Magazine, the 23-year-old Starr revealed that she was grappling with low self-esteem during that period. She described Rihanna’s warm personality as instrumental in helping her rediscover herself.

“My best memory with Rihanna was sitting with her while we watched my music videos,” Starr recalled. “The fact that she was pointing out her favorite parts felt so unreal. At that time, I was struggling with my self-image and confidence, so that moment meant everything.”
Starr expressed her belief that Rihanna’s appearance in her life was no coincidence. She referred to their first encounter as “one of the most amazing feelings,” stating, “I felt like God had sent her to me.”
Starr has long voiced her admiration for Rihanna, often citing her as a primary source of inspiration and a role model. During their meeting, Rihanna indicated that she was open to collaborating with Ayra Starr and fellow artist Tems.
