Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Afrobeats artist Burna Boy, shared insights into her son’s online presence during a recent interview on Channels TV with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
Ogulu discussed her approach to Burna Boy’s Instagram Live sessions, revealing that she often intervenes by taking his phone when his comments become too extreme. She emphasized the importance of allowing her son to express himself, noting that his personality is integral to his artistry.
“You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets,” Ogulu said. “What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him are like a tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel.”
She acknowledged that the same emotions fueling Burna Boy’s controversial moments are also what endear him to his fans. “You must make allowances for this person being himself, because that same emotion is what makes people love him,” Ogulu stated. “Within, we do what we can. I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live.”
