I lost four pregnancies to spousal abuse – Actress Basira Beere on failed marriage

Yoruba Actress Omoshalewa Yusuf Addresses Failed Marriage and Domestic Violence Claims
Nigerian actress Omoshalewa Yusuf, popularly known as Basira Beere, has publicly discussed the challenges she faced in her recent marriage, including allegations of domestic violence.
In a recent episode of the “Talk to B” podcast, Yusuf accused her ex-husband of physical abuse, revealing that she suffered the loss of four pregnancies due to the violence. She indicated that despite the turmoil, she remained in the marriage longer than she should have, citing pressure to adhere to her parents’ advice.
“When I was about to get married, my friends expressed concerns that he was not on my level. I told them I understood hardship and wanted to support my partner,” she stated. “I financed approximately 70% of our wedding ceremony.”
Yusuf recounted that the abuse began just two days after their wedding. She described an incident in which a male acquaintance congratulated her via text, and the ensuing conflict resulted in substantial physical harm. “He became violent over small matters, and our landlord even attempted to intervene,” she said.
She expressed frustration that when confiding in her parents about the abuse, they advised her to be patient and endure the situation. Only her siblings, who lived with them, were aware of the extent of her suffering. “During one confrontation, I was left covered in blood,” she added, referencing a report by the blog Gistlover, which covered her experiences.
Yusuf’s candid revelations shine a light on the difficult realities faced by victims of domestic violence, emphasizing her desire to raise awareness and support others in similar situations.
