‘I only wanted to get TikTok followers’ – Man arrested for raising fake bandits attack alarm begs police

Young Man Appeals for Forgiveness After False Alarm in Ogun State

A young man identified only as Qawiyu has requested forgiveness from the Nigeria Police following his false alarm regarding a bandit attack in Ogun State.

Currently in police custody, Qawiyu admitted to fabricating the report in an attempt to increase his followers on social media, specifically TikTok.

“I raised a fake bandit attack just to gain TikTok followers. Please forgive me. My Ileya customers’ clothes are still in my shop,” he stated.

When questioned about his involvement with the individual depicted as a Fulani herdsman in the video, Qawiyu explained that the herdsman frequents his area, where he typically moves with his cattle.

“He initially refused to participate, but I insisted. I told my apprentice to record it,” he said. “I did it because I noticed others using similar tactics to gain followers.”

Authorities are examining the incident as they continue their investigation.
