I started smoking in JSS3 – Ebuka Obi-Uchendu
Media Personality Reveals Battle with Smoking Addiction
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, a prominent media personality, recently shared his experience with smoking addiction and the steps he took to overcome it. In a recent episode of the podcast “MENtality,” alongside musician Banky W and social media influencer Aproko, Obi-Uchendu detailed his smoking history, which began in junior secondary school.
“I started smoking in JSS3 and continued for 13 years,” he said. “By the time I entered university, I was consuming two packs a day and considered myself a heavy smoker.”
Obi-Uchendu explained that he successfully quit smoking after making intentional efforts to combat the addiction.
Banky W also discussed his struggles, revealing that he became addicted to pornography while trying to address personal issues related to promiscuity. “I thought that by turning to pornography, I could avoid moving from woman to woman,” he stated.
Obi-Uchendu noted that many individuals make a similar mistake by substituting one addiction for another while attempting to escape their previous habits. Aproko emphasized that many negative addictions stem from a desire to escape pain. “Human beings have two ambitions: to avoid pain and to chase pleasure. A significant amount of drug use is rooted in people’s attempts to avoid pain,” he said.
The discussion highlighted the importance of self-regulation and self-discovery as essential tools for overcoming negative addictions.
