Nollywood Actor Reflects on Past Financial Decisions
Lagos — Timini Egbuson, a prominent actor in Nigeria’s film industry, disclosed in a recent episode of the MENtality podcast that he once relied on loans to support a lavish lifestyle.
Egbuson revealed that his expenditures on fashion and luxury items led him to a pivotal realization: true happiness lies beyond the pressure to continuously acquire the latest trends. “There will always be a newer watch, a newer car,” he noted, addressing his former life as a perfume collector, where he amassed around 150 bottles. He expressed regret over not channeling that money into more fruitful investments, such as buying land.
“I’m not trying to talk down on having a nice car or watch,” Egbuson said. “But are you doing it for yourself or because of peer pressure? Are you genuinely happy with it? Without it, would you still be happy?”
The actor shared insights on his journey toward self-acceptance during difficult times. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, regardless of financial circumstances. “There are times when I have been broke, but my energy is always the same because I found a way to be happy with whatever I have,” he explained. He encouraged his audience to acknowledge both good and bad days, warning against the consequences of living an inauthentic life.
“I used to be that guy who lived a fake life and borrowed to impress people. But not anymore,” Egbuson concluded.
