‘I was tagged husband snatcher’ – Eucharia Anunobi

Nollywood Actress Eucharia Anunobi Reflects on Backlash from ‘Glamour Girls 2’ Role

Veteran Nigerian actress Eucharia Anunobi discussed the significant backlash she faced following her portrayal of a character in the film “Glamour Girls 2” nearly three decades ago.

In a recent appearance on “The Honest Bunch Podcast,” Anunobi recounted the criticism she received, noting that many viewers conflated her on-screen persona with her real life. Her character, Anita, was depicted as a seductive escort, leading some to label Anunobi as a “husband snatcher” and “mammy water.”

“I faced a lot of backlash for my role in ‘Glamour Girls 2,'” Anunobi said. “At that time, the Nigerian public pretended not to watch such movies, but many people were quick to label me. They called me Sharon Stone, Mammy Water, and Husband Snatcher.”

The actress elaborated that her character is a student who seduces a wealthy man away from his wife, and some viewers began to perceive her as a real-life seductress. “It became so intense that women would hold their partners tightly when they saw me,” she added.

Anunobi emphasized that her performance was solely an interpretation of the script, stating, “I only acted a script.” She also revealed that she received additional compensation for a notable bathtub scene with actor Zack Orji.
