Award-winning British rapper and singer Tinie Tempah has disclosed his Igbo roots, which he believes have significantly influenced his artistic creativity. In a video posted to his YouTube channel on Monday, Tempah highlighted the cultural contributions of the Igbo people, noting the achievements of notable figures such as Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Tempah, a multi-platinum selling artist, explained that his connection to the Igbo tribe has shaped his understanding of creativity. He cited the notable accomplishments of Igbo authors, including Achebe, who won the Booker Prize, and Adichie, a nominee for the prestigious award.

“I am from the Igbo tribe and I do believe that there’s something very intrinsically creative about Igbo people,” Tempah said. He reflected on the impact of Nigerian authors, particularly those from the Igbo community, on global literature.

The artist expressed his belief that his heritage plays a vital role in his talent and creativity, stating, “That’s beautiful.”
