Nigerian Singer Portable Denies Blacklisting Claims
Controversial Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, known as Portable, has responded to allegations of being blacklisted by prominent figures in the music industry. The claims emerged after social media influencer Tunde Perry referenced a meeting attended by industry executives, during which Portable was reportedly labeled as a concern due to his behavior.
Perry stated that Portable’s alleged misconduct not only led to him being scrutinized but also created challenges for emerging artists seeking support from established musicians and record labels. He further suggested that acclaimed rapper Olamide is now hesitant to back new talent following his interactions with Portable, who criticized Olamide after receiving assistance for his breakout song “Zazu.”
In a video statement, Portable rebuked Perry, Olamide, and the executives purportedly involved in the blacklisting, asserting that he does not require their endorsements to succeed in the music scene. He emphasized that his fan base is sufficient for his career.
“I am bigger than them,” Portable declared, referring to those allegedly trying to undermine him. He questioned the motives of his detractors, asserting that genuine support does not come with strings attached. He urged Olamide and others to avoid crossing him, warning of potential repercussions.
Portable’s remarks come amid heightened tensions within Nigeria’s competitive music landscape.
