Shakira Reveals Collaboration with Burna Boy for World Cup Anthem

Colombian pop star Shakira has shared the inspiration behind her collaboration with Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy on the song “Dai Dai,” set to be featured in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a recent appearance on the Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Shakira expressed the need for a distinctive masculine vocal for the track and noted that Burna Boy’s energetic style made him an ideal partner.

“I have always loved Burna. I was obsessed with getting him on the track, so I called him,” Shakira said.

The singer emphasized her excitement about the collaboration, stating she “couldn’t imagine anybody else on it, actually.”

Since its release, “Dai Dai” has achieved multiple global music records. It became the first song to reach number one on Spotify’s newly launched Global Music Video Chart. Additionally, Burna Boy made history as the first African artist to top the Apple Music Global Top Songs chart.

The track also set new benchmarks for Burna Boy, positioning him as the African artist with the most monthly listeners on both Spotify and YouTube Music, with figures reaching 53 million and 600 million, respectively.

Moreover, Burna Boy will make history as the first African artist to perform at the newly introduced World Cup Final Halftime Show.
