Imo: Police nab suspects linked to murder of 100-level FUTO student, Chibuzo

Three Arrested in Connection with University Student’s Murder in Imo State

Three suspects have been arrested in relation to the murder of 21-year-old Christogonus Chinedu Chibuzo, a first-year student at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. Chibuzo, a Cyber Security major and member of the university’s Man O’ War organization, died under suspicious circumstances on May 30.

According to a statement from Imo State Police Command spokesperson Henry Okoye, preliminary investigations suggest that Chibuzo was subjected to severe assault by fellow members of the organization after being accused of stealing 13,500 Naira.

The suspects—Benedict Chukwuemeka, 21, Gospel Kelechi Ikenna, 24, and Anastasia Obioma, 21—all of whom are fifth-year students at the same university, are currently in police custody.

Okoye indicated that initial findings revealed Chibuzo was restrained and assaulted, resulting in critical injuries. He was subsequently transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

“Upon receiving the report, Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso immediately directed operatives to take swift action, resulting in the rapid arrest of the suspects,” Okoye said.

The police have secured relevant evidence, and the body has been placed in the morgue for preservation and autopsy. To ensure a thorough investigation, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri.

The police commissioner has also instructed that all individuals connected to this incident be identified and investigated to ensure justice is served.

In light of this tragic event, the Imo State Police Command has assured the family of the deceased, the university community, and the public of its commitment to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Chibuzo’s death.
