INEC Calls for Enhanced Collaboration with Security Agencies Ahead of By-Election

AKURE, Ondo State — Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State, urged for strengthened partnerships between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and local security agencies to ensure a smooth electoral process.

Agboke made the remarks on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by INEC’s Ondo State management team to the heads of security agencies in Akure. He emphasized the necessity of collaboration as preparations ramp up for the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

“INEC and security need strong cooperation. We must enhance the existing collaboration between INEC and the Department of State Services (DSS),” Agboke said during the meeting.

In response, Mr. Sagiru Samaila, the Ondo State Director of the DSS, welcomed the initiative and assured INEC of the agency’s commitment to providing adequate security before, during, and after the election.

During a subsequent visit to the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Agboke reiterated the importance of sustained inter-agency synergy. He also informed the command about the commencement of Phase III of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, set to begin on May 11, 2026.

Comptroller Charles Oyewole of the Ondo NCoS reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting INEC as needed.
