Injured Blues star’s shock Origin return bid

Manly star Jake Trbojevic is targeting a shock return from a calf injury in time for the State of Origin opener later this month despite still being sidelined.

Trbojevic has not played since round nine after picking up a grade two strain against the Titans.

However, the 29-year-old revealed that he isn’t too far away from returning to the field.

“It’s getting there, it’s been feeling pretty good,” he told 2GB’s The Continuous Call Team of his injured calf.

“Obviously disappointing not to be out there, but hopefully (I’ll) be back next week or the week after.”

Trbojevic has been a mainstay in New South Wales’ State of Origin side since making his debut in 2017, having made 15 appearances for his state.

Despite being sidelined in recent weeks, Trbojevic declared that he would be “good to go” if he is selected by Blues coach Brad Fittler.

The 2023 State of Origin series will get underway on May 31 with the series opener to be played in Adelaide before wrapping up with matches in Brisbane and Sydney.
