Insecurity: Army battalion arrive Kwara, proceed to Pategi, Omu Aran communities
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Welcomes Nigerian Army Battalion in Kwara
ILORIN, Kwara State — Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State welcomed one of the five battalions of the Nigerian Army deployed to Omu Aran in the Irepodun Local Government Area on Tuesday. The ceremony took place at the 22 Armoured Brigade Sobi Barracks in Ilorin.
In remarks made during the event, the governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift deployment of the troops. He noted the promptness of the operation, saying, “Our coming here is truly significant because when the Chief of Army Staff announced the deployment of brigades in Kwara, we thought it is something that will take some time. We can see that they are now here hitting the ground running.”
Present at the event were Major General Yakubu Yahaya, General Officer Commanding the 9 Division of the Nigerian Army and Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield, and Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade.
Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the importance of the battalion’s mission, stating, “These troops are going to Omu Aran. We welcome them to Kwara and appreciate what they are doing.” He also commended President Tinubu for recently approving increased welfare packages for soldiers, which he believes will enhance troop morale.
“Obviously, we came here with a welfare package, but most significant is the approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in increasing their salaries and welfare packages; that is the major thing,” he added.
The governor’s comments reflect ongoing efforts to bolster the morale and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the region.
