Israeli Strikes in Gaza Claim Five Lives Following U.S. Peace Proposal

Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least five Palestinians on Sunday, two days after a new U.S. peace initiative aimed at disarming Hamas was announced.
Local officials report that a strike on a residence in central Deir el-Balah killed two individuals and left several others injured. Additionally, three people were killed in an attack on an apartment building in northern Gaza City.
These strikes occurred shortly after the U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace released a 15-point plan intended to facilitate the implementation of last year’s ceasefire agreement for Gaza. Despite recent diplomatic efforts, Israeli military operations have persisted.
The proposed roadmap remains unimplemented. Hamas has indicated that it will agree to disarmament only if Israel ceases its military actions and withdraws its forces, as previously agreed. An Israeli official informed Reuters that there would be no withdrawal from current positions unless Hamas undertakes “genuine disarmament.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to publicly address the initiative. In contrast, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir labeled the proposal as unacceptable, asserting that Israel should continue its operations against Hamas leadership.
In related developments, Mohammed Dahlan, a former senior Fatah official based in the United Arab Emirates, stated that Jared Kushner—Trump’s son-in-law and a senior advisor on the U.S. initiative—has been in discussions with Israeli officials regarding a potential halt to attacks in Gaza. Dahlan noted that continued dialogue with Washington is critical for the plan’s success, contingent upon an end to Israeli airstrikes.
Additionally, Israeli attacks on Saturday destroyed a medical supply warehouse in central Gaza, creating a crater 20 meters (66 feet) wide and 10 meters (33 feet) deep. This incident is part of ongoing military actions that continue despite international calls for a ceasefire.
