‘It Is Disrespectful To Compare Fela With Wizkid’ – 2Baba

Nigerian Singer 2Face Criticizes Comparisons Between Wizkid and Fela Kuti
LAGOS, Nigeria — Acclaimed Nigerian artist Innocent Idibia, known professionally as 2Face or 2Baba, has condemned the recent comparisons between Wizkid and the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. He termed these comparisons “disrespectful” and “ridiculous.”
Wizkid’s remarks claiming he is “bigger” than Fela have ignited controversy, particularly in light of criticisms from Fela’s son, Seun Kuti. In a teaser from an upcoming episode of the podcast Mic On, 2Face stated that comparing the two artists overlooks their distinct eras, influences, and contributions to Nigerian music.
“Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous,” 2Face expressed. “It is disrespectful to Fela, and at the same time, it is also unfair to Wizkid.”
Additionally, Nigerian media personality Yeni Kuti has voiced her disapproval of artists who liken themselves to her father. In an interview with Arise TV, following the acceptance of Fela’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Grammys, she emphasized Fela’s enduring impact nearly three decades after his death.
Yeni argued that discussions surrounding Fela’s legacy often miss the point. She urged contemporary musicians to respect his contributions rather than attempt to diminish them through comparisons with a deceased icon.
“Artists should compare themselves with their peers instead of with Fela,” Yeni Kuti advised.
