Nigerian Actress Accuses Ghanaian TV Station of Movie Piracy

Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has publicly criticized a Ghanaian television station for allegedly airing her film, “The Memory of You,” within 24 hours of its release without authorization.

The actress’s statements follow the launch of the movie’s final episode, which debuted on Friday at 5 p.m. She accused NETV of broadcasting the film without her permission or any agreed-upon license.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Ojo stated, “My movie THE MEMORY OF YOU 1&2 is being aired on TV channels in Ghana without my permission. No call. No license. No payment. Just pure theft.” She urged Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, along with relevant authorities, to take action against the station.

Ojo highlighted the importance of enforcing existing copyright laws, referencing the Copyright Act of 2005. She emphasized the detrimental effects of piracy on filmmakers, stating that it “kills creativity, kills jobs, and kills investment.”

The actress’s comments came one week after the Ghana National Film Authority announced intentions to crack down on television stations airing unauthorized Nigerian films.

Ojo’s post has garnered attention, raising concerns about intellectual property protection in the entertainment industry.
